The eldest son of Yakumo Koizumi, he received home-schooling from his father, Yakumo – mainly in English and folk tales – up to the age of 10. He graduated from the Department of English Language & Literature at Waseda University. After working at the Yokohama Grand Hotel and as an English teacher at a school in Tokyo, he became a writer and wrote literary works regarding his father, Yakumo, mainly from the perspective of a family member. He also took an interest in print art.
