Annie Wharton is an artist, writer, and independent curator. She’s had solo museum projects at the Kirishima Open Air Museum in Japan and The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum in Miami. In addition to showing in galleries and art fairs internationally, she’s shown her work at the Museum of Contemporary Art/Geffen Center in LA, and in group shows at Museo del Arte in San Salvador, the Ringling Museum of Sarasota and MOCA in Washington, DC, and in Miami at the Lowe Museum, the Bass Museum, and MOCA. She graduated with a BFA from the University of Miami in 1998. Wharton has written art criticism for Flash Art, OC Weekly, and THE Magazine, and is the video art critic for Artlurker. Recent curatorial endeavors outside The Company (www.thecompanyart.com, the gallery she has co-owned since 2008 in Chinatown, LA) include an exhibit of 13 corporeal action videos called “Chained to a Creature of a Different Kingdom” which premiered in Miami at David Castillo Gallery and featured the works of Skip Arnold, Susan Lee Chun, Angela Dufresne, aaron GM, Kate Gilmore, Ann Hamilton, Micol Hebron, Dawn Kasper, Marilyn Minter, Shana Moulton, Ali Prosch, Yvonne Rainer, Pipilotti Rist, Jimmy Joe Roche, and Mark Verabioff; and “Cut/Paste: Collage as Methodology in Video Art” at Post Gallery in Los Angeles, which featured the work of 11 young video artists from the US and Europe. She has also curated artist video screenings in Berlin, Los Angeles, Miami, and Santa Barbara. She lives and works in Los Angeles, California.
